On Sunday 19th July Musgrave Park welcomed a record breaking 3600 participants in MS Queensland's Byrne Ford Brissie to the Bay.MS Queensland would like to officially thank the 3600 cyclists from all over Queenland that turned up at 6am on Sunday 19th July to participate in the state's largest charity bike ride - we have so far raised $184,000.
Participation surpassed last year's record breaking ride, with 3600 eager participants young and old riding for a cure on 3 different rides, including the classic from South Brisbane to Wynnum and back.
The initial fundraising goal was an ambitious $150,000 but with the generous support of individual riders and local businesses, plus stirling fundraising efforts by teams such a as Baulderstone, Action Formwork and Seton College, the $150,000 was reached 5 days out from the big event. The new goal is $200,000 which we expect to reach as donations continue to come in over the next two weeks.
With the rate of multiple sclerosis diagnosis rising in Australia by 7% every year, MS Queensland teamed up with Byrne Ford Kedron in order to make this event as successful and as memorable as possible.
“We are absolutely thrilled with the outstanding effort of our riders and teams this year,” said Pat Scammell, two time Olympic and four time Commonwealth Games track athlete and the new Director of Marketing at MS Queensland.
“The best part about the $184,000 is that it is purely donations and 100% of it goes towards helping Queenslanders living with MS.”
Team Baulderstone have so far topped the fundraising leaderboard with a massive $32,000 - easily reaching their admirable goal of $30,000. The highest individual fundraiser was Mathew Eastman, who raised $11,472.
The top teams and individuals can be viewed on our online fundraising leaderboard.
