The National MS Society in the United States this week hosted a live web forum on Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency (CCSVI) and what it could mean for people with MS. The keynote speaker, Dr Paulo Zamboni from the University of Ferrara in Italy, is the main driver behind the hypothesis surrounding CCSVI.
CCSVI is believed to be an abnormality in blood drainage from the brain and spinal cord, possibly contributing to nervous system damage in multiple sclerosis. The theory is based on early findings from a study of approximately 65 patients.
