Unexplained MS incidence gradient

A groundbreaking Australian study shows for the first time in humans that sun exposure does not only prevent CNS demyelination through its effect on vitamin D, but has its own independent protective effect.

In addition, the Ausimmune study demonstrated that only a small part of the well known latitude gradient of MS incidence is accounted for by sun exposure and vitamin D, leaving a “great mystery” as to what might explain the pattern.
