MS Australia – QLD is leading the way in raising awareness, and engagement with key stakeholders, for critical issues including employment retention for people living with MS and chronic illnesses.
According to the AIHW Chronic Disease and Participation in Work Survey (Feb 2009) people with chronic disease are 60% more likely not to be in the labour force than people without.
For those who are diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) the figures are even worse. More than 80% become unemployed within the first 10 years of diagnosis.
We are advocating to keep Queenslanders diagnosed with a chronic illness in employment for as long as possible. This week we will host an Employment Roundtable, bringing together key decision makers and stakeholders to discuss the issues surrounding employment and workplace retention.
A summary of discussions will be released after the Roundtable. To view some of the latest issues being advocated for at a national level, download the latest Policy Issues Statement here.
