MS Awareness Week which runs from Wednesday 25 May to Sunday 5 June has come to an end.
In Australia, 3 out of 4 people who are diagnosed with MS are women and the average age of diagnosis is just 30 years of age.
To educate Queenslanders of this confronting fact, we raised awareness across the State by encouraging people to wear red clothing and red lipstick during MS Awareness Week and to read up on the disease and its symptoms to ensure early diagnosis.
In Brisbane, we held a huge 'Kiss Goodbye to MS' event in King George Square on Monday 30 May from 7am – 9am as hundreds of commuters had their lips painted red for MS. A number of Brisbane’s most iconic bridges and buildings also turned red at night during MS Awareness Week including the Kurilpa Bridge, Brisbane City Hall, King George Square, QPAC and the Gateway Bridges in support.Across regional Queensland our MS Support Groups – those living with MS - fundraised through the sale of Kiss Goodbye to MS badges and lolly bags. Money raised will go back to providing support for those living with MS in the local area.
Unfortunately MS never goes away and the 20,000 Australians who have MS should be thought of regularly. To help our cause you can:
1. Read up on the facts about MS and share the information with your friends, family and colleagues
2. Watch the NEW World MS Day Employment and MS videos on YouTube
3. Donate to help us provide vital services and support to those living with MS and to put towards vital research on the disease. Click here to donate.
