Regional Service Coordinators (RSC)

Advice and HelpThe Regional Service Coordinators are the first point of call for people newly registered with MS Australia – QLD. Their role is to support people with MS and their family to identify their information and service needs and to assist them to access the support necessary to enable them to live, work, participate in, and enjoy life. The Regional Service Coordinator is available on an ‘as needs’ basis.  Some people with MS need little contact, others require information and support at different points throughout their life depending on how MS affects them. Regional Service Coordinators are based in six regions across Queensland and have extensive knowledge of services available in the community.  A central point of contact is the Information line.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy ImageOrganisations promoting the needs of people living with the impacts of MS advocate the benefits of consultation with a specialist neurological physiotherapist, whose knowledge, skills and experience are appropriate to meeting the needs of people diagnosed with MS.

For any stage of MS, a consultation with a MS specialist physiotherapist will provide you with advice and strategies to minimise current and future impacts of MS on day to day living. At MS Queensland we aim to deliver quality programs guided by the latest research and evidence to keep people active. Although MS can be progressive, improvements in quality of life and independence can be made by having a physiotherapy consultation. With your consent, if needed, we refer, collaborate and liaise with other healthcare providers to support your goals. MS Queensland has physiotherapy clinics at Dutton Park, Chermside, Sandgate and Gold Coast. We have formed and are continuing to develop, partnership projects with physiotherapy and exercise service providers in Brisbane, Cairns, Toowoomba, the Gold Coast and Townsville.

Volunteers

Those who donate their time to MS Australia - QLD as volunteers are the lifeblood of the organisation. Whether providing one-on-one assistance to a person with MS or helping at one of our fundraising events, our many services and activities rely on passionate volunteers.

Our volunteers work across two key areas; providing fundraising and events support, and assisting people in the community living with MS. When registering to volunteer with the Society, each volunteer is given a choice as to how they would like to assist the organisation.  They are then matched to tasks based on their preferences and abilities.

As a fundraising and events support volunteer, all volunteers are given specific training, briefing notes and verbal briefings on the date of the event by either an MS staff member or team leader volunteer. Their work includes on-course marshalling, assisting with registrations, managing merchandise, manning drinks stations, pre and post event packing and collating of materials.

Our community services volunteers generally provide regular on-going support, often on a weekly or fortnightly basis. Volunteers increase client social support through activities such as visiting places of interest, shopping, or simply sharing a discussion or a craft. We also offer a range of other activities including pottery classes, exercise and stretching support. These activities can take place in the client’s private home, the MS residential complexes or the general community. All community services volunteers  have a security check and receive appropriate training to support them in their role of visiting with people living with MS in the community.
