Dalby and Oakey Physiotherapy and Exercise Services

1. Dalby Hospital Physiotherapy Department

Am I eligible? All people with MS eligible to attend.

Availability: There is a waiting list which varies. Clients are prioritised depending on their individual needs and an appointment will be scheduled as they become available. No set timeframe from referral to initial consultation can be established.

Services:

  • Out Patient Physiotherapy service:
    • 1 on 1 Physiotherapist Assessment & Development of a Home Exercise Programme or Gym Programme in the out patient department
  • ‘Rolling Rehabilitation Programme’ for people with chronic conditions
    • Following the assessment by the physiotherapist the individuals have the opportunity to attend the physiotherapy department gym for a set period of time to exercise with supervision to become comfortable and confident with their exercise programmes
  • Chronic Pain/ Persistent Pain Management Programme:
  • 1 day ‘Change Programme’ consisting of several 45 minute education sessions from different medical practitioners;
    • Following this, opportunity may exist for a weekly 8 week multidisciplinary team lead chronic pain management programme with 6-8 participants
    • Possibility of clients further away from Dalby linking in to this through video-conferencing (Jandowae, Tara, Chinchile & Miles)
  • Fortnightly physiotherapist clinics in Jandowae and Tara.

How to access the service: GP Referral to Leanne Kranz for physiotherapy assessment.

Cost: There is no cost involved.


2. PCYC Dalby

Am I eligible? Everybody with MS who has the capacity to self fund the service is eligible to attend.

Services:

  • Accessible Gym with cardiorespiratory and strengthening equipment:
    • The gym is on the ground level and has a has a ramp to access it at the front
    • It is level so accessible to all people
      Gym Opening Hours
      Monday – Thursday: 5.30am – 8.00pm
      Friday: 5.30am – 6.00pm
      Saturday: 7.00am – 11.00am
      Sunday: 4.30pm – 6.30pm
  • Numerous gym based exercise classes at PCYC:
    • Circuit Classes, Body Pump, Body Balance, Zumba, Boxing
    • Possibility of setting up some rehabilitation/disability exercise classes in the future if enough interest is generated* by contacting MS Society’s, Regional Services Co-ordinator (RSC) for the Southwest Region on 1 800 177 591 or by contacting Carla Dimartino (Gym Manager with disability & Rehabilitation experience).

How to access the service: Contact the gym for the medical clearance form to complete prior to the visit and to arrange the blood pressure test prior to exercising.

Cost: Each class has a different cost; contact reception for further information

 

3. Active Physiotherapy

Am I eligible? Everybody with MS who has the capacity to self fund the service is eligible to attend.

Availability: There is generally no waiting list to see a therapist.

Services:

  • Physiotherapy Services:
    • 1 on 1 musculoskeletal physiotherapy assessment and treatment in clinic rooms
    • Exercise Prescription
    • Pilates Classes:
      o    Tuesday 6.30am-7.30am
      o    Wednesday 5.00pm – 6.00pm
      o    Thursday 5.00pm – 6.00pm

Cost:

  • This varies depending on the service required (enquire via a phone call to the clinic)
  • Services may be subsidised by health fund rebates (obtain details of the service from the clinic and contact your health fund for specific details)
  • Medicare EPC programme allows 5 Allied Health visits to people with MS at nominal cost.  It is possible to have a total of 5 visits under this scheme. They may be a combination of exercise physiology and physiotherapy if you require set up of an exercise programme.

 

4. Vital Health Dalby

Am I eligible? Everybody with MS who has the capacity to self fund the service is eligible to attend.

Availability: There is generally no waiting list to see a therapist.

Services:

  • Physiotherapy:
    • 1 on 1 Assessment and treatment in clinic rooms
  • Exercise Physiology:
    • 1 on 1 assessment in clinic rooms/ onsite gym
  • Development of individualised exercise programmes for home
  • Dietetics
  • Massage
  • Speech Therapy
  • Also offers a service in outlying areas of Kingaroy, Miles, Tara, Chinchilla, Taroom & Wandoan; appointments can be made by ringing the Dalby clinic.
