1. Baillie Henderson Pool, Aquatherapy Services
PLEASE NOTE: this service is temporarily not operational and we are unaware of when it will reopen. As an alternative we have offered people with MS access to the hydrotherapy pool from 8:00am to 9:30am:
- This involves two sessions of seven (7) people maximum with an MS Society volunteer lifeguard in attendance
- The first session is from 8:00am – 8:45am and the second session is from 8:45am – 9:30am
- There is a pool hoist to assist with access to the pool
- The pool is 36 degrees
NOTE: 32 degrees is the recommended temperature for exercising in the pool for people with MS.
Am I eligible? This is a Toowoomba Health Service District Facility pool and is accessible to all people with MS both those registered as a client with the MS Society and those who are not.

Services: A lifeguard provided by the MS Society supervises the exercise group.
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A PRESCRIBED POOL EXERCISE PROGRAM
- you may join the group during these times, once your Baillie Henderson Pool orientation is complete
IF YOU HAVE NO PRESCRIBED POOL EXERCISE PROGRAM
- you can choose to join the group and participate doing your own exercises as part of the group, once your Baillie Henderson Pool orientation is complete
- currently there is no supervision of the pool sessions by an Aquatic Exercise professional
- exercise prescription at the pool can be arranged by prior notice via the MS Society for registered clients only.
IF YOU ARE NEW TO EXERCISE AND REQUIRE ASSISTANCE WITH AN EXERCISE PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
- a referral to a physiotherapist may be required to provide an assessment and to prescribe a pool exercise program
- referral can be arranged by speaking to the MS Society’s, Regional Services Co-ordinator (RSC) for the Southwest Region on 1 800 177 591, if you are a registered client of the Society

2. Blue Care Day Therapy Centre
Am I eligible? Clients with MS need to have HACC eligibility or be over 65 to be eligible to access a range of Bluecare services in Toowoomba.

Availability: Bluecare have a waiting list based on priority of needs for access to their services. An appointment will be scheduled as they become available, provided your needs can be met by their service. No set timeframe from referral to initial consultation can be established in advance.
Services:
- Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Dietitian, Social Worker and Psychologist
- delivery of ‘ABC’ Falls prevention program: Activity, Balance, Confidence.
How to access the service:
- referral by health care professional e.g. GP, hospital Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist or other health professional
- referral by the MS Society’s, Regional Services Co-ordinator (RSC) for the Southwest Region on 1 800 177 591, if you are a registered client of the MS Society Can we have a link to the Register for Services on the website.
Cost:
- $10 per individual consultation
- $8 per session for the Falls Prevention Class
- $8 per session for Chronic Disease Self Management group called Living well with a chronic condition
- $5 for bus transport to the centre.

3. USQ Student Guild Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre
Am I eligible? All people with a diagnosis of MS are eligible to attend.

Availability:
- three weekly exercise classes run: Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10.15am to 11.00am and;
- there will be a new weekly evening class starting on Wednesday 6 July 2011 from 5.30pm to 6.15pm.
- a possiblity of commencing an evening class 5-6pm dependent on numbers. Please communicate your interest to Kylie Haywood (Programs Officer) 07 4631 1588.
Services:
- Healthy Steps Classes (see brochure attached)
- fully supervised exercise program aiming to improve fitness, endurance, flexibility and co-ordination
- run by gym instructors trained in working with people with MS
- small numbers: 5-6 people per class.
How to access the service:
- phone the gym and enquire about the Healthy Steps class
- you will receive a brochure about the class or download brochure from our website
- fill in the Doctor’s Clearance Form on the back and bring to your first session
- when you decide to go to the gym for the first time; Kylie Haywood (Programs Officer) will organise a ‘meet and greet’ and give you a free pass to attend a few classes on the Tuesday or Thursday and the option to observe the class before commencing attendance is possible.

4. Physiotherapy Private Practice Clinics
Am I eligible? All clients who have the capacity to self fund service.

Services:
- Aquatherapy Classes:
- located at Grammar School pool
- twice weekly; 12-14 people in each group (2 physiotherapists in attendance)
- Tuesday 7am and Thursday 11.30am
- Actively Aging 4 week Courses:
- designed to assist with fitness and health as you age (not MS Specific but valuable program for all people)
- includes information regarding falls risk and prevention, lifting, nutrition, lifestyle changes, exercise, flexibility
How to access the service: Phone to make an initial appointment and assessment with a physiotherapist (Kerry Burrows) in the clinic, prior to attending the classes/courses.
Cost:
- Aquatherapy: $25 per person per class
- Actively Aging 4 week course; set cost (enquire via phone call).
- subsidised by health fund rebates (obtains details from the clinic and contact your health fund for specific details).
